The Court Has No Borders | A Pickleball Journey from Karuizawa to China

Earlier this month, I traveled with our Hong Kong ambassadors to the opening of Yuppie Pickleball Club in Dongguan, China. I didn’t know quite what to expect. What I found was a quiet confirmation of why we started.

Set within Hillview Country Club Resort, the facility is composed and understated—six courts, a pro shop, and locker rooms surrounded by a lush, unhurried landscape. Just over ninety minutes by high-speed rail from Hong Kong, the journey felt less like business, more like escape.

What Happens on the Court

EVERYDAY SOCIAL® was welcomed alongside established American brands. We played with local players, shared rallies, and exchanged smiles across the net with people we had never met.

And yet, we left feeling connected.

This is the part that never changes.

We are a small brand, born quietly in the mountains of Karuizawa. We never set out to compete with scale. We set out to build something true. Standing on those courts in Dongguan, that intention felt clear.

What China Is Teaching the Sport

Pickleball may have begun in America. But what is emerging in China feels like something new.

Players arriving from table tennis and badminton bring a different rhythm—lighter on their feet, softer in touch, more patient at the kitchen line. They are not simply learning the game. They are reshaping it.

And the sport is better for it.

This is what happens when a game moves across cultures with sincerity. It evolves.

On Language, and the Lack of It

There is a moment on every court that requires no translation.

A rally neither player wants to end.
A point conceded with a smile.
A quiet nod after something unexpectedly perfect.

These are not cultural exchanges. They are human ones.

In Dongguan, across from players whose language I don’t speak, I felt entirely understood.

On Travel, and What It Returns

A paddle fits easily into any suitcase.

What matters is what waits on the other side—a court in a place you don’t know, players you’ve never met, and a game that begins between strangers and ends, somehow, between friends.

Few things in life work this way so reliably.

We are fortunate to have built a brand around one of them.

A Note on What This Means

Dongguan was not a revelation. It was a reminder.

From the beginning, EVERYDAY SOCIAL® was never meant to be defined by geography. Not Japanese. Not Asian. Not even just pickleball.

It is a philosophy—expressed through design, through play, and through the people who carry it forward.

From Karuizawa to Hong Kong.
From Dongguan to wherever the game travels next.

Play more. Connect more. Live EVERYDAY SOCIAL®.
