Japanese Pickleball Brand | A Different Approach to Design
Founder’s Thoughts by Ivan H.

Japan has long approached design differently.

Whether in architecture, fashion, furniture, automobiles, or everyday products, there is often a preference for restraint rather than excess — minimalist and elegant rather than loud, intentional rather than decorative.

There is a quiet confidence in Japanese design philosophy. Good design does not necessarily demand attention; often, it simply feels natural. It removes what is unnecessary and leaves behind only what matters.

When my wife and I started EVERYDAY SOCIAL in Karuizawa, we found ourselves asking a simple question:

What would a pickleball brand look like if it followed these same principles?

At the time, many paddles in the market felt visually aggressive — oversized logos, loud graphics, products designed to immediately grab attention. There is nothing inherently wrong with that approach, but we felt there might be room for something different.

Something more authentic.
Something that felt more timeless and sophisticated.

Because design matters more than people realize.

A paddle is something you hold for hours every week. The shape, finish, balance, and visual design all subtly influence your experience and even your mindset before stepping onto the court.

In many ways, the things we choose to surround ourselves with quietly say something about who we are. The clothes we wear, the watch on our wrist, the car we drive, the furniture in our homes — these choices often communicate aspects of our personality without saying a single word.

Sports equipment should not be any different.

We wanted our products to feel like an extension of the person using them rather than simply another piece of sporting equipment.

Many of our products quietly carry pieces of Japan within them.

The gold foil details on our GRAN CLASS PWR paddles were inspired by the beautiful autumn leaves of Karuizawa, while also drawing subtle influence from the tradition of Japanese gold leaf artistry originating in Kanazawa. The naming, colors, and overall atmosphere of many of our products are shaped by the place we are fortunate enough to call home — Karuizawa's forests, changing seasons, and natural surroundings.

These inspirations are rarely obvious at first glance. We intentionally prefer subtle details over loud statements.

There is a certain authenticity and thoughtfulness that comes with creating products this way.

As an independent boutique brand, we operate differently from large global sports companies. Small-batch production does not necessarily optimize cost — in fact, our production costs are often significantly higher than those of larger brands with greater scale. Yet our goal was never to maximize short-term profits.

Instead, we wanted to create value for the person holding our products. More importantly, we wanted to create a wider global connection of like-minded individuals who appreciate what EVERYDAY SOCIAL stands for — thoughtful design, continual improvement, and a shared love for sport and community.

One of the most rewarding things for us is seeing players meet on a court for the first time and immediately notice another EVERYDAY SOCIAL paddle. There is often an instant connection — a small moment of familiarity and shared appreciation that feels different from many larger mass-market brands.

We wanted people to feel a sense of satisfaction and belonging. We wanted customers to feel they were becoming part of something — a journey that started as a husband-and-wife project in Karuizawa and gradually grew into a global community connected through sport.

At EVERYDAY SOCIAL, our goal was never simply to create another paddle.

We wanted to create products people genuinely wanted to continue using.

Designs that age well rather than follow trends.

Products built around a few ideas we deeply believe in:

Simplicity — Good design removes unnecessary elements.
Craftsmanship — Small details often create the largest differences.
Timeless Design — Well-designed products tend to outlast trends.

As pickleball continues to grow around the world, I believe we will increasingly see players searching for products that feel quieter and more lasting — products with stories, meaning, and authenticity behind them.

Thank you for believing in us and for being part of our journey.
